The importance of interloper removal in galaxy clusters : saving more objects for the Jeans analysis

چکیده

We study the effect of contamination by interlopers in kinematic samples of galaxy clusters. We demonstrate that without the proper removal of interlopers the inferred parameters of the mass distribution in the cluster are strongly biased towards higher mass and lower concentration. The interlopers are removed using two procedures previously shown to work most efficiently on simulated data. One is based on using the virial mass estimator and calculating the maximum velocity available to cluster members and the other relies on the ratio of the virial and projected mass estimators. We illustrate the performance of the methods in detail using the example of A576, a cluster with a strong uniform background contamination, and compare the case of A576 to five other strongly contaminated clusters. We model the velocity dispersion and kurtosis profiles obtained for the cleaned data samples solving the Jeans equations to estimate the mass, concentration and anisotropy parameter and present the mass-concentration relation for the total sample of twelve clusters.

Interloper treatment in dynamical modelling of galaxy clusters

The aim of this paper is to study the efficiency of different approaches to interloper treatment in dynamical modelling of galaxy clusters. Using cosmological N -body simulation of standard ΛCDM model we select 10 massive dark matter haloes and use their particles to emulate mock kinematic data in terms of projected galaxy positions and velocities as they would be measured by a distant observer...

baryonic matter distribution in the large-scale structures is one of the main questions in cosmology. This distribution can provide valuable information regarding  the processes of galaxy formation and evolution. On the other hand, the missing baryon problem is still under debate. One of the most important cosmological structures for studying the rate and  the distribution of the baryons is gal...

Persistent K-Means: Stable Data Clustering Algorithm Based on K-Means Algorithm

Identifying clusters or clustering is an important aspect of data analysis. It is the task of grouping a set of objects in such a way those objects in the same group/cluster are more similar in some sense or another. It is a main task of exploratory data mining, and a common technique for statistical data analysis This paper proposed an improved version of K-Means algorithm, namely Persistent K...

A Clustering Approach by SSPCO Optimization Algorithm Based on Chaotic Initial Population

Assigning a set of objects to groups such that objects in one group or cluster are more similar to each other than the other clusters’ objects is the main task of clustering analysis. SSPCO optimization algorithm is anew optimization algorithm that is inspired by the behavior of a type of bird called see-see partridge. One of the things that smart algorithms are applied to solve is the problem ...
